IT CAN BE SOMEWHAT INTIMIDATING TO WALK INTO THERAPY FOR THE FIRST TIME IF YOU DON’T HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING FOR HOW IT WORKS.

Knowing what to expect can sometimes make this easier, so let me share what you can expect if you are considering therapy with me. We'd begin with a complimentary 15–20-minute phone consultation where we would talk briefly about you and your motivation for considering therapy and I would answer any questions that you might have. This initial interaction provides us the opportunity to determine if we might be a good fit in working together to address your needs. If you feel that you’d like to move forward, I then verify your eligibility and benefits with your insurance company, and we can then schedule the initial appointment. I would send you paperwork, usually by email, to complete before first appointment.

Our first session or two would involve going over paperwork and getting to know more about you. I'd ask about your history and current concerns and we'd talk about what you hoped to achieve from therapy. In the following appointment we would create your treatment plan, identifying the goals that you’d want to address during our time together.

Subsequent sessions would focus on those goals. And when you’ve successfully accomplished those goals we would move toward ending therapy unless there were additional goals that you’d want to address. The length of treatment varies depending on the type of issues you are wanting to address. Some people attend 3-4 sessions, while others may stay 6-12 months or longer depending on their needs.

CONNECTION IS THE ENERGY THAT IS CREATED BETWEEN PEOPLE WHEN THEY FEEL SEEN, HEARD, AND VALUED, WHEN THEY CAN GIVE AND RECEIVE WITHOUT JUDGMENT ~Brené Brown

As a client-centered therapist I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship and the impact it can have on fostering positive change. It is through this connection that you can share your story, and be acknowledged, validated, accepted and empowered. And as these things begin to occur, you are more likely to experience improved symptoms, more positive emotions, improved self-esteem and increased wellbeing.

I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) when working with individuals. CBT tells us that it’s not what you experience, but rather how you perceive what you’ve experienced that matters. The goal of CBT is to examine the relationship between your thoughts, emotions and behavior, to modify these and to develop healthier and more realistic beliefs. You will learn how to view your experiences in a different manner which can have a positive impact on your mood, behaviors, reactions, decisions, etc.

SO IF YOU’RE READY TO TAKE THAT FIRST SCARY STEP, CONTACT ME FOR A COMPLIMETARY 15 MINUTE PHONE CONSULTATION TO GET THE THERAPY PROCESS STARTED. I LOOK FORWARD TO CONNECTING WITH YOU.
